From the Vine to the Glass: The Story of Bevan Cellars
March 25, 2026
Some wine brands are built on marketing. Bevan Cellars was built on obsession. Since its founding in 2005, Bevan Cellars has earned its place among Napa Valley's most respected names — not through noise, but through an unwavering commitment to quality, site-driven winemaking, and wines that speak entirely for themselves. With a philosophy rooted in texture and precision and a winemaker who has spent his career chasing the finest expression of California's greatest vineyards, Bevan Cellars represents something rare in the wine world: a brand that consistently over-delivers.
Now, as Adversity Cellars becomes part of the Bevan Cellars story, we want to introduce you — or reintroduce you — to a winery that has been quietly redefining what Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon can be.
The Beginning: A Passion That Became a Purpose
Bevan Cellars was founded in 2005 with a singular philosophy: Unlock Potential. Craft Excellence. It wasn't a tagline. It was a mandate. Russell Bevan came to winemaking through a genuine obsession with wine — the kind that leads a person to study every great bottle they can get their hands on, to spend years understanding what separates a good wine from an unforgettable one.
What Russell discovered early on was that the greatest wines don't come from the winemaker — they come from the vineyard. The winemaker's job is to listen. To understand what each site is saying and find a way to translate that into the glass without losing the soul of the fruit. That philosophy has guided every bottle of Bevan Cellars wine ever produced.
The Winemaker: Russell Bevan

Russell Bevan is one of the most decorated winemakers in California history. His portfolio includes 41 perfect 100-point scores and more than 200 wines rated 97 points or higher — numbers that speak for themselves. But what makes Russell exceptional isn't the scores. It's the consistency. Year after year, vineyard after vineyard, he delivers wines that are powerful and precise, structured and seductive.
Russell's approach to winemaking is rooted in texture. "We approach winemaking from a texture standpoint," he has said. "We know that special vineyards will give us flavor and aromatics, but managing textural balance is where the real magic lies. We use minimal pump-overs, instead turning our fermentations with giant air bubbles. This process results in a gentler extraction of tannins and anthocyanins. We strive to make massive wines with huge tannin profiles that never come across as tannic. Let the vineyard's voice find its own way while ensuring that the wine is texturally seductive and intense." (Bevan Cellars Press)
In 2025, Russell was honored at WineaPAWlooza, one of the wine world's most celebrated charity events. He also partnered with world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli on a new Cabernet Sauvignon — a collaboration that speaks to the caliber of the people who seek out Russell's work. The Wines: Two Collections, One Standard of Excellence

Bevan Cellars produces two distinct collections, each a reflection of California's remarkable wine-growing diversity.
The Napa Valley Collection
The heart of Bevan Cellars is its Napa Valley Bordeaux-style collection — small-lot, single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons sourced from some of the most celebrated sites in the region. From Oakville to Howell Mountain, Saint Helena to Rutherford and Stags Leap, each wine is a site-specific expression of what Napa Valley does best.
The 2023 vintage is a landmark release. The Dr. Crane Cabernet Sauvignon and the Tench Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon both earned perfect 100-point scores. The Sentinel Ridge and Wildfoote each received 99 points. The Tench Calixtro earned 98 points. The Tin Box Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, EE Red Wine, and Ontogeny Red each earned 97 points. These scores were awarded by the International Wine Report, Robert Parker, Jeb Dunnuck, and Vinous. View the full press coverage here.
The collection also includes the Dry Stack Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc from Bennett Valley and the Sugarloaf Oak Mountain Vineyards Proprietary Red from Napa Valley — a single-vineyard wine rooted in Cabernet Franc and Merlot, sourced from a site in the rolling hills of southern Napa Valley.
The Sonoma Collection
With its roots in Sonoma County, Bevan Cellars also produces a Sonoma collection featuring Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah from premier vineyards in the Sonoma Coast, Bennett Valley, Petaluma Gap, and Russian River Valley. Each wine honors the place where the winemaking journey began — and reflects the same commitment to quality that defines the Napa Valley collection.
The Experience: Tasting at Brasswood
Bevan Cellars offers two tasting experiences at Brasswood in St. Helena, available by appointment Tuesday through Saturday.
The Bordeaux Tasting ($125 per person) is a 75-minute exploration of five red wines from the Napa Valley Bordeaux Collection, including a library reserve selection subject to availability. Available at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, or 2:00 PM.
The Food & Wine Lunch Pairing ($200 per person) is a guided food and wine experience featuring five wines from both the Napa and Sonoma collections, paired with four courses at Brasswood Kitchen & Bar. Led by a Bevan Cellars wine specialist, this experience runs approximately two hours and is offered between 11:45 AM and 2:30 PM based on restaurant availability.
